Extra-curricular projects

Sewing is about more than just learning new skills. It is also about applying those skills to other fun and interesting projects.
Some of these will be covered in summer camps or special days during the year. Or they can be added in between project levels as the student wishes.

This little skirt for an 18" doll can easily be sewn by a child who knows how to run a sewing machine and has learned (or is learning) skills covered in projects 1 and 2.

A patchwork pillow using scraps of fabric from other projects (in this case the nightshirt from project 4) can be an introduction to patchwork, which is a staple of quilting. The simple seams are not unlike the seams seen in the pillowcase in project 1, but there are new things to learn in the way it is put together.

This little black and white top has raglan sleeves and no facings at the neck. The  construction allows for simple hems at the neck edges before the sleeves are sewed on. That would put it on a level between projects 2 and 3.
